An applicant for the licensed journeyman exam:
To be eligible for the journeyman license examination, the applicant must have been actively and primarily engaged in providing electrical services for various electrical installations, equipment, and apparatuses, as part of their training to become a journeyman electrician. This experience must span at least four years (8,000 hours) under the guidance and supervision of:
A licensed master electrician or licensed electrical contractor.
An equivalently qualified employee of a governmental unit or maintenance company.
The State Journeyman Board may waive the experience requirements for a journeyman electrician license application if the applicant:
Provides written evidence of participation in an electrical apprenticeship program approved by a state, IBEW, IEC, ABC, or other recognized body, which includes:
Completion of required classroom hours; and
8,000 hours of work experience.
Other documented learning, apprenticeship, and electrical experience may be required.
The State Journeyman Board's descision is based on verifiable electrical experience.
